Happy October! If you know me, you know I LOVE Halloween. Also if you know me, you know I LOVE cocktails. So of course I’m thrilled to bring my two loves together and craft some creepy cocktails to celebrate with this month!

First up, The Blood Moon. This cocktail is both sinister and sexy with its deep blood hue and mysterious moon ice. Inspired by a Manhattan and a New York Sour (just noticed a theme there), The Blood Moon is delightfully dangerous and not for the faint of heart. A combination of whiskey, red wine, vermouth, and pomegranate juice creates a luscious but powerful Halloween libation. I know the idea of whiskey with red wine together may scare some, but what’s Halloween without a little fright? Jokes aside, trust me when I tell you these ingredients blend perfectly into a lightly sweet and spooky sipper.

This cocktail is quite easy to bring together. Simply combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice, shake until chilled, and pour over a “moon” ice cube in a rocks glass. Enjoy…but beware of vampires and werewolves…

Ingredients

• 3/4 oz bourbon
• 1 oz red wine
• 1/2 oz vermouth
• 1/2 oz pomegranate juice
• 2 dashes orange bitters
• Optional spherical ice for moon

Directions

1. Combine bourbon, wine, vermouth, pomegranate juice, and bitters with ice in a shaker
2. Shake until chilled
3. Strain contents of shaker over moon ice into a rocks glass
